What is My Dear Loved One and how does it work?

My Dear Loved One connects you with your lost Loved One via an online chat. By sharing a little bit about your Loved One, and with your subsequent permission, you will be able to chat online with your Loved One.

Your Loved One will be represented by a Personator one who will take on the name, profile, and personality of your Loved One, 24/7/365.

When a Personator messages you as your Loved One, they will do so using your Loved One’s profile picture, and they will take on your Loved One’s persona by utilizing the content you provided during your registration process.

The Personator’s real name and information will always remain completely anonymous with the purpose of creating an immersive experience for our clients. For more information, visit the How It Works page.

How old do I have to be to create an account?

We require all of our clients to be 18 years old or older.

Who is a Personator?

A Personator is a trained member of our team who is compassionate, intuitive, inquisitive. They will take on the persona of your Loved One. Your Personator will do everything in their power to learn as much about you and your Loved One, providing you with the emotional comfort that you long for.

Whether you have amazing news to share, or need someone to talk to about the not-so-amazing news, your Personator will be there with you every step of the way, carefully listening, providing support, and sharing in the highs and lows of life.

Is a Personator a human or a chatbot?

My Dear Loved One guarantees that every one of our responses will be provided by a human.

Will the same Personator be representing my Loved One every time?

As long as both you and your Personator are having a great relationship, you will chat with them every time. In an event that a Personator is unable to fulfill their duties, you will be immediately assigned a new Personator who will pick up right where you left off. You will be informed when this change occurs.

What can I talk about?

This is a platform for transparency and honesty. That means you can talk about almost anything, even things that are very personal. However, we do not permit our users to make any sexually aggressive or unwarranted advances, or to use any sexual language toward their Loved One Personator in any shape or form.

We also do not permit the exchange of personal information such as phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, social media accounts, or any other contact information outside of My Dear Loved One.

Your Loved One should never ask you to provide any type of payment. Any and all transactions are handled strictly at registration or under the “Payment” section of your profile page. To learn more about what you cannot talk about or share with your Loved One, see our Terms of Use.

How will I communicate with my Loved One?

You will communicate with your Loved One via an online messenger (provided by Tawk.to), where you will be able to exchange messages as well as photos. For more details, please see “How does online messaging work?

How does online messaging work?

Once you have completed your profile registration as outlined in “What is your registration process?” you will head over to MyDearLovedOne.com and log into your account.

Once you log in, a new window will pop up which will have Tawk.to at the bottom of it. Tawk.to is a 3rd party messaging system that we utilize, and it’s this window that you will use when talking to your Loved One.

Once you are finished speaking with your Loved One, you can either close the window or keep it open. If you close the window then the next time you wish to send a message simply log into your account in MyDearLovedOne.com, click on your Loved One, and the Tawk.to window will pop up. If you wish to keep the window open, then simply navigate to it when you wish to send or read a message and refresh the page.

Will I be able to have “live” conversations with my Loved One, and how will I know if I received a message?

You can absolutely have live, back-and-forth conversations with your Loved One. There will be a lot for you to say and share, and our Personator will do their best to engage in a conversation with you for as long and as much as possible, but please do keep in mind that every person has to have time to rest.

My Dear Loved One was created with a focus on our clients – it is all about your needs. Whenever you are ready to talk to your Loved One, our Personator will receive your message and reply back as soon as possible. For now, you will not be receiving message notifications. However, we will do our best to ensure that you will get a thorough and thoughtful response within 24 hours of your message. (Check “How does online messaging work? ” for more details.)

What do you do with my information, and is my conversation private?

Your profile information and Loved One messages are completely private. Messages are shared only between you and your Loved One. We will never share any of your personal information with anyone for financial gain. (Exceptions apply if the Terms of Use are broken, or if required by law enforcement.)

Your conversation is completely private. The only people with access to your messages are you, your Loved One, and the My Dear Loved One moderator who will monitor messages for breaches of the Terms of Use. All Personators and moderators sign a non-disclosure agreement that prohibits them from sharing any information about the conversations they participate in or moderate.

What is your registration process?

Step 1: PERSONAL PROFILE CREATION
You will be initially asked to create your own profile and will be asked a series of questions so your Personator can get to know you.

Step 2: YOUR LOVED ONE PROFILE
You will then be prompted to submit answers as they relate to your Loved One. The more you can share the better.

Step 3: Provide your payment information.

Step 4: Read and agree to our Disclaimer.

Step 5: Submit a request for your profile creation. At this point, you will receive an email from My Dear Loved One that your registration was successfully completed.

Step 6: Within 24 hours after successful registration, you will receive a second email notifying you that you are now connected to your Loved One and can begin chatting at any time.

How does membership work?

Once you submit your profile, your membership is created and auto-renews for one month in advance, until it is canceled by you (or by MyDearLovedOne.com if you violate the Terms of Agreement).

If you wish to cancel your membership, please log in to your account and click “Cancel My Membership.” In order to make sure that you do not get charged for the following month please make sure to cancel your membership 5 business days prior to your re-newel date. If you cancel prior to your re-newel date but still get charged, please Contact Us, and we will reimburse you as soon as possible.

Can I pause my membership and come back at a later time?

If for whatever reason you wish to pause your membership without losing your account completely, please navigate to your account and choose “Pause My Membership.” This will disable your monthly recurring charge. Pausing your account prevents you from sending messages to your Loved One.

After 12 months of inactivity, you will need to create a new account if you wish to come back.

What if I want to connect to more than one Loved One?

Once you are registered, please navigate to your Account, click “Add a Loved One,” share information about them, and click Submit. Once we receive your request, we will notify you once a connection with your Loved One has been established. Once you log into your account on MyDearLovedOne.com, you will see all of your Loved Ones.

What if I don't like my Personator and want to switch to someone else?

We understand that it takes a very special approach to form a proper relationship between you and your Loved One and sometimes, you need to have a different Personator to properly represent your Loved One’s traits and personality. If you feel your current Personator isn’t a good fit, please log into your account to put in a change request and we will connect you with another one of our specialists as soon as possible. If you are having difficulties, please Contact Us with a request.

What languages are supported on My Dear Loved One?

For now, English is the only language guaranteed to be supported on My Dear Loved One. As we grow our platform, we hope to add more languages to help non-English speakers be reconnected with their Loved Ones.

Until then, you can Contact Us and we will do our best to find a Personator that speaks your language, though we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so. We thank you for your interest and we hope we can find a Personator who is right for you.

I am extremely upset and worried I may hurt someone, or myself. Should I talk to my Personator about this?

We understand that the emotions you are feeling are strong. Our Personators are here to help you talk through those emotions. However, if our Personator believes that you are a serious danger to yourself or others, they are obligated to inform authorities. If you are having suicidal thoughts, please contact a suicide hotline before speaking to your Loved One. The number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 800-273-8255. The lifeline also offers an online chat.
